STEPPING OUT OF THE BOX: MANAGING CHANGE

The content covers two elements:
innovation (creativity and problem-solving) and change management (adopting habits and attitudes
to facilitate change).
LENGTH
Either topic is available as a keynote or workshop, from 45 minutes up to a full day.
MIX & MATCH
Content may be custom designed for the occasion, allowing the client to:
* focus on either innovation or change as a topic, learning and using techniques on specific
issues

of change.

* for participants to notice their current way of thinking and begin to expand to a broader way
of thinking.

change-friendly environment.

management.
PHILOSOPHY AND APPROACH
Stepping Out of the Box is based on the philosophy that :

the key to success.
* no special talent or training is required.
* innovation and change is a dynamic process, and success come from ongoing practice.
CONTENT:
THE EXERCISES
Stepping Out of the Box is delivered as a series of demonstrations and exercises. There are
exercises in drawing, writing, puzzles, problem solving, visual paradoxes, and more.
In contrast to how puzzles and problems are usually presented, participants are told that it
doesn't matter if you get it right, if you finish first, or even of you solve it at all. The sole
purpose of the puzzles is for participants to begin to notice their own thinking system. From
there they can begin to broaden their skills and resources.
Included are exercises that demonstrate:
* tunnel vision, or how our thinking and behavior tends to get locked into a consistent track.
* the idea of a paradigm shift, creating and adapting to a new set of rules and realities.
* how our perceptions limit us and how we can see beyond them to create greater options.
* how our assumptions can be dangerous, and how we can bring them to light and challenge them.
* how resistance to change can be transformed to causing change and making change work for us.
* the value of beginner's mind; going beyond familiarity and past experience to see with fresh
vision.
TECHNIQUES
Various techniques are presented that allow participants to generate ideas, solve problems, and
successfully manage change.
The techniques share the common elements of:
* simplicity : no manual or complicated procedures.
* versatility: can be used individually,
in groups, during meetings.
* effectiveness: many participants have forwarded their business
with these techniques
THE INNOVATION GROOVE: CREATIVITY THROUGH MUSIC
Creativity, Leadership, and Teamwork
Through Making Music
"Everything we do is music. Everywhere is the best seat."
John Cage
The act of making music engages many key elements necessary for innovation,
such as effective teamwork, emotional intelligence, logic, intuition,
improvisation, deep listening, full participation, and individual/group
dynamics.
Music is an exciting, experiential model for effective and holistic ways of
generating and implementing new ideas in a collaborative environment.
Playing and composing music, like the creative process itself, is a
balance between free-flow and structure, individual and team, leading and
following, mind and body. The musical process involves our emotional,
intellectual, and physical selves simultaneously. No musical experience is
necessary for participants!
OBJECTIVES:
1. To apply practical lessons from the music world to your own innovation
process.
2. To observe and encourage alternative perspectives on innovation.
3. To identify and move beyond your own limitations in creativity and
leadership.
4. To improve teamwork through the appreciation and encouragement of
diverse thinking styles and creative talents.
5. To improve interpersonal communication and understanding of others.
6. To encourage and identify multiple perspectives prior to resolving
issues or decision-making.
7. To facilitate and develop a group's ability to collaborate and make
decisions in the creative process.
